What Information and Documents Are Required?
1. Valid Passport: A valid passport for your stay period in Colombia (ideally six months beyond) is necessary. You'll need to input the passport number, issue and expiration dates, and upload a digital scan of the photo page.
2. Flight Details: Have your travel itinerary ready with your flight number, airline, and date. Use the flight details for your entry into or exit from Colombia. These details need to be accurate and match your booked flights.
3. Accommodation in Colombia: Provide the address where you'll be staying, be it a hotel, Airbnb, or a friend's place. The first night's accommodation address is normally good enough.
4. Return or Onward Ticket: For tourists, proof of onward travel within the allowed period (usually 90 days) may be needed. This could be a return flight ticket or evidence of leaving Colombia.
5. Personal Details: Prepare your full name, date of birth, nationality, and other personal data exactly as they appear in your passport.
6. Contact Information: Provide a current email where you can get notifications and the Check-MIG confirmation. Also, give your phone number with the international country code.
Supporting Documents:
- Passport Scan: Upload a clear scan or photo of your passport’s ID page.
- Flight Ticket: If needed, upload a PDF or screenshot of your flight confirmation.
- Visa (if applicable): Add details or uploads of any Colombian visa you have.
- Health Documentation: As of now, no COVID-19 vaccination proof is needed. Always check for any updates or required health documents before submitting.
Collecting these documents beforehand will keep the errors to a minimum and make sure your Check-MIG submission is accepted without delays.
Check-MIG Validity and Usage
The Check-MIG form is critical for travel to and from Colombia, valid for a single trip and must be completed for each entry and exit. It’s a flight-specific declaration, not a multi-entry document.
Once approved, a Check-MIG is valid for about 90 days (generally, this period covers the typical tourist stay). You should submit the form within 72 hours before your flight to make sure that it’s in sync with your travel dates.
If you're staying beyond 90 days, the initial Check-MIG won’t cover your exit. You'll need to fill out a new form when you depart.
There’s no renewal process, so a new form is required for each travel segment. Make sure you have your Check-MIG confirmation accessible on your phone and printed out as part of your travel documents. Airlines and immigration authorities will verify your Check-MIG at entry as well as exit points.
The Check-MIG replaces the traditional paper immigration form. Don’t expect to use paper methods. Standard entry requirements like a valid passport and, if necessary, a visa still apply.
If your travel plans see a major change (e.g., different flight or date), submit a new Check-MIG to match the updated details. Always check that your Check-MIG accurately states your travel plans to comply with Colombian immigration regulations.
